According to the Orange County Register, slippery roads and rain made the commute to work today rather challenging. It is important that drivers exercise extra caution when operating their vehicles in rainy conditions, which can make it easier for a traffic crash to happen.
Steps a motorist can take to prevent getting involved in an Orange County, California motor vehicle crash when driving in rain and on wet roads:
• Slow down and adjust your driving to the weather and road conditions.
• Keep a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you--remember you may need more time to stop your auto if the roads are slippery.
• Keep to the middle lanes where less water has likely accumulated.
• Try to keep your vehicle in the tracks of the car that's in front of you.
• Exercise caution when overtaking another vehicle.
• Don't talk on the cell phone or text.
• Pay attention to the road and other vehicles.
• Avoid having to step on the brakes abruptly.
• Keep your headlights on.
• Avoid driving if visibility is too poor.
• Go slowly when driving through deep puddles.
Failure to drive carefully when the weather or road conditions are poor can cause serious injuries and deaths.
